Praise!!!
The Sexy Weirdos may not have made it to the reviews section of the Guardian yet but sometimes people say some bloody nice things about us online.
Our good friend Craig Barry has supported us in his guise as The Retinal Circus a few times now, and on Friday morning he posted this on his facebook page about our Worcester show the night before. I’m sure bits of it will end up on our bio but here’s the full post in all it’s unedited glory -
“Well last night at THE MASHUP Live Music & Open Mic @ The Crown w/ LOBSTER/THE SEXY WEIRDOS was bloomin ace!! Lobster were one of the best dub infused bands I have seen in a long long time. So fun, so sincere.. so young!! I tripped out listening to them.. Feeling every word and every note! But then… There are literally no words I can put together without forming a clumsy sentence to express how utterly incredible Johnny Kowalski and the Sexy Weirdos are fast becoming. They have came very far since the early days of Philip & John ‘johnny Kowalski’ and on occasion John-Joe on excellent fiddley dee, where even then it showed promise and potential.. But then came along the impeccable cartoon rhythms of Matt, Si on mariachi Cornet, Ross Millar on blackploitation esq trombone and not forgetting the always inspired Super Jeff!! Thankfully throughout numerous additions they have retained the topsy turvey drunken circus submerged in whiskey sound that I have always loved! The energy, the rhythm and the precise counterpoint of the horns have all gelled into this wondrously intense fanfare of audience call and response! I have never been so proud to know a band this good on such a level! Every gig I play with them feels like an honour! They literally get better and better.. I’m not gonna kiss your arses any further without a protective shot, so fairplay guys I see big things for you and a bright future! Well deserved!!”
If you are not familiar with Craig’s work as The Retinal Circus I suggest you follow this link and pick up a copy of the excellent Quiver e.p right now -
